MOCK FIRE DRILL CONDUCTED AT KENNEDY HIGH
KENNEDY HIGH the global school organized a Mock Fire Safety Drill in collaboration with Usha Fire Safety Services on 22 June 2024 to spread awareness on Fire Safety. The students were instructed by the teachers to evacuate the building in an orderly fashion using the clearly marked “FIRE EXIT”, as trained earlier through live demonstration and Power point presentation. The students from both CBSE and Cambridge wings assembled on the school grounds at a pre-designated assembling point, awaiting further instructions. Shortly after, the instructor from the Usha Fire Safety team introduced himself and the rest of the team while informing the students that they were to learn about fires, five extinguishers and how to use them.
The instructor opened with measures to safely evacuate a building on fire. This included tips such as covering your nose with a wet cloth while evacuating or extinguishing a fire, and staying close to the floor to avoid smoke inhalation. It was explained that fires are classified into different types. Solid fires – ‘A’ level fires can only be extinguished using water on power extinguishers, followed by liquid fires – ‘B’ level fires, which call for carbon dioxide or powder extinguishers. The final level, that is, gas fires and electrical fires – ‘C’ level fires require only power extinguishers.
Next, the students were educated about parts of a fire extinguisher and how to operate them. The Usha fire safety personnel first demonstrated extinguishing liquid and solid fires. Then, class XI and XII students, teachers, security guards, drivers and Principal Ms. Rajyalaxmi Bhat were called for a hands-on experience regarding the same.
The Fire Safety drill organized by the school management was an insightful learning experience that taught the students and the staff of KENNEDY HIGH the global school on how to protect themselves in the dire situation of a fire.
